Offered here is a beautiful and unique piece of agatized coral. Pockets of sparkling druze add to the mystical beauty of this piece. It fluoresces under UV light as well! The Florida Legislature designated Agatized Coral (Fossilized Coral) as Florida's state stone in 1979. Highly prized among collectors, Agatized Coral is believed to be between 25-38 million years old and from the Oligocene-Miocene period. Found in ancient ocean beds, Agatized Coral is pseudomorphic which means it is formed when a variety of Chalcedony replaces the minerals in coral. Trace minerals in the agate create a range of colors ranging from white to red which can give the fossil a "banded" look. It is most often found in the Tampa Bay area, however, specimens have been found in the Econfina and Suwannee Rivers.
